Lectures in History: 1973 Film "Soylent Green" & the Environmental Movement
Virginia Commonwealth University history professor Emilie Raymond teaches a class on the 1973 film "Soylent Green," examining how it reflected the contemporary environmental movement and fears about overpopulation.

 

Saturday 10pm & Sunday 4pm ET
Reel America: "Ku Klux Klan: The Invisible Empire" – 1965
This 1965 documentary produced by CBS Reports traces the KKK's history from its 1915 resurgence through the post-World War II years. The film includes scenes of Ku Klux Klan ceremonies and interviews with members which viewers might find disturbing. The film earned CBS Reports and producer David Lowe a 1965 Peabody Award.

The Presidency: Harry Truman & Herbert Hoover
History professor Lisa Ossian of Des Moines Area Community College uses photographs and diary entries to describe the enduring friendship between Republican Herbert Hoover and Democrat Harry Truman. Her remarks were part of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum's conference titled "Presidential Partnerships: Herbert Hoover and Presidents Wilson, Coolidge, Truman and Eisenhower."

1967 Detroit Riots 50th Anniversary
American History TV marked the 50th anniversary of the Detroit riots with a special program from the Detroit Free Press. We looked back to July 1967, when five days of rioting erupted in the city, sparked by a police raid on an illegal bar and fueled by long-simmering tensions over racism and segregation. Our guests were:
