LIVE: The Civil War's Impact on Americans The American Civil War Museum in Richmond, Virginia hosts a symposium on the war's impact on ordinary people. Speakers include: • Peter Carmichael, Gettysburg College Civil War Institute Director • James Robertson, author, "The Untold Civil War: Exploring the Human Side of War" • Jane Schultz, author, "Women at the Front: Hospital Workers in Civil War America" • Amy Murrell Taylor, author, "The Divided Family in Civil War America"

Lectures in History: Political Theory & the Early Republic
We visit a Georgetown University Law Center course called "Recent Books on the Constitution," which invites authors to answer student questions about their work. In this class, guest speaker Thomas West talks about his book, "The Political Theory of the American Founding."

Reel America: "A City Decides" – 1956
In the landmark 1954 Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students were ruled unconstitutional. "A City Decides" is a 1956 film documenting the response of St. Louis to the court's decision, and the difficult process of integrating the city's public schools. Sponsored by the Fund for the Republic, an early think tank supported by the Ford Foundation, the film was directed by Charles Guggenheim and was nominated for an Academy Award.

American Artifacts: Clifford K. Berryman Political Cartoons
We look at a selection of Clifford Berryman's popular political cartoons from the early 20th century at the National Archives Center for Legislative Archives in Washington, D.C. His work is featured in the journal of the White House Historical Association.
