In the third in a series of symposia on American authors, participants talked about women writers in the American West. They focused on the works of Willa Cather, Edna Ferber, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Andrew Jewell, co-editor of The Selected Letters of Willa Cather, talked about the author and her letters. The letters include humorous reports of life in Red Cloud, Nebraska, in the late 19th century, notes from her college years at the University of Nebraska and as a journalist, as well as those written during her rise as a novelist. C-SPAN's Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their "2015 LCV Cities Tour" in Lincoln, Nebraska, from May 3-7 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.

A bronze statue of author Willa Cather (1873-1947) was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol National Statuary Hall, representing Nebraska - the scene of prairie life depicted in her novels. She was the first Pulitzer Prize-winner and the 12th woman to be honored there.
