At the final night of the Republican National Convention, President Trump accepted the party's nomination. He closed out the night by discussing his administration's accomplishments and plans for a second term.
On the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention, former vice president and 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden accepted the nomination from the party. His speech highlighted his background and his plans for uniting the country.
Using clips from the Democratic National Convention (August 17-20, 2020) and the Republican National Convention (August 24-27, 2020), this lesson has students compare the speeches given at each party’s convention and develop summaries of the messaging and priorities of each party. Students will use this information to evaluate the effectiveness of each party’s message.
Vice President Pence, Democratic presidential candidate Biden, members of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks and President Trump all responded to the events occurring in Kenosha, Wisconsin over the past week. They reacted to the shooting of Jacob Blake, protests, civil unrest, and the killing of protesters by an armed civilian.
