Ken Cuccinelli, Former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021. The legislation seeks to reinstate the full protections of the original Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 2013, the Supreme Court in its Shelby County v. Holder ruling removed certain elements of the original bill.
