On This Day: Ellis Island Opens

On January 1, 1892, Ellis Island in New York City officially opened. It became one location where millions of immigrants arriving to the United States, would pass through to be processed before they could enter the country. Ellis Island Immigration Museum

Peter Urban gave a tour of the Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York City and showed how some 12 million immigrants were processed in the facility. The tour included archival photographs and films of the immigrant experience.
