Origin of Memorial Day and the Memorial Amphitheater

Arlington National Cemetery Historian Tim Frank talked about the origin of Memorial Day and the development of the Memorial Amphitheater located in Arlington National Cemetery. He explained how President Woodrow Wilson laid the cornerstone for the theater that contained a memorabilia box (or time capsule) with artifacts from that time period.

Description

Arlington National Cemetery Historian Tim Frank talked about the origin of Memorial Day and the development of the Memorial Amphitheater. In 1915, President Woodrow Wilson laid the cornerstone for the Amphitheater that contained a memorabilia box (or time capsule) of artifacts from that time. In April 2020, 105 years later, it was opened to discover what was inside. Tim Frank and conservator Caitlin Smith showcased the objects and talked about their significance that reflect that moment in history.
