Lesson Plan: The Holocaust

Reasons for the Holocaust

Peter Hayes, author of the book "Why?: Explaining the Holocaust" emphasizes the importance of events that preceded the Holocaust and offers insight into why the genocide occurred.

Description

In 1933 Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany allowing his publicly antisemitic sentiments to spread. His efforts to purify the 'Aryan Race' gave rise to concentration camps set in motion in order to isolate and ultimately exterminate Jews in Europe. Hitler's plan was known as the 'Final Solution', in which he wanted to wipe Jewish people from the face of the Earth for good. Through various primary accounts of concentration camps and scholarly insight the modern world has been able to learn more about a time period in which one of the most historical genocides to date occurred.
