On This Day: Anne Frank

On June 12, 1929 Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt Germany. With the rise of Adolf Hitler in power, an increase in antisemitism and the economic crisis in the country, Anne, along with her sister Margot and her parents Otto and Edith, made the decision to leave Germany and establish a new life in Amsterdam. As the war in Europe grew, the Frank family attempted to emigrate to the U.S. or England, but they were unsuccessful. In May of 1940, German troops invaded the Netherlands and soon occupied the region. Regulations were imposed on Jewish people which made life difficult for the family. The family eventually went into hiding to avoid being sent to concentration camps. During this time, Anne writes of her experiences in a diary. Two years later, the family is discovered and they are sent to camps. View this video collection to learn about Anne, her diary and her legacy.
