An examination of President Obama's decision to ask for Congressional Authorization of Syrian Military Strikes. Issues include the powers of the Presidency as Commander-in-Chief and the War Powers Act.

Description

These three clips discuss the War Powers Act with a regard to the president's role as Commander-in-Chief and the role of congressional authorization for military action. The first clip explains the War Powers Act and President Obama's decision to ask for congressional authorization of Syrian military strikes. The second clip features Sen. Paul (R-KY) discussing the president's powers during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on use of military force in Syria. The third clip discusses the War Powers Act as it is applied to modern presidential military decisions.
