The House debated and passed a non-binding resolution (H. Res. 861) on support for operations in Iraq and efforts to combat international terrorism. It also stated that no time limits should be set for U.S. withdrawal of troops and that the U.S. would prosecute the war on terrorism until victory had been achieved. The resolution was not open for amendment and opponents argued that it was a political ploy by the Republican majority to manipulate emotions of the electorate prior to the 2006 midterm elections.
A resolution to relieve Representative William Jefferson (D-LA) from his committee assignments was passed by unanimous consent.
