House Approves $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill
House Session - January 12, 2022

The House passed a bill to improve GI education benefits for members of the National Guard and Reserves. Members also approved the debate rules on legislation combining two voting rights bills (the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act) that were previously passed by the House in the first session of the 117th Congress. Democrats were doing this under a parliamentary procedure that would allow the Senate to begin floor debate on the same legislation without the usual 60-vote threshold. However, a vote to end debate in the Senate would still require a change to filibuster rules in order to reach final passage.
