The House passed four bills related to policing and public safety. One would create a grant program to help smaller police departments. A second would provide grants to states, Indian tribes, tribal organizations, urban Indian organizations, and political subdivisions to call for mental health professionals to respond to certain emergencies rather than police. A third measure would authorize $6.5 billion through 2029 for a grant program supporting community-based crime intervention. The fourth bill would provide $100 million a year to help close unsolved crimes, including homicides, rapes, sexual assaults, and kidnappings. All four bills would next go to the Senate for consideration.
