The House voted 224-201, largely along party lines, to pass a stop-gap bill to fund the government through December 23 while lawmakers completed work on a larger omnibus spending bill that would fund the government through the end of the current fiscal year in September 2023 . Members also approved two Senate-passed measures, one concerning conflicts of interest in federal acquisitions, and the other addressing de-escalation training for law enforcement. Lawmakers also considered several bills under suspension of the rules. One of the suspension measures, which passed unanimously, would remove the bust of former Supreme Court Justice Roger Taney, who in 1857 write the majority opinion in the Dred Scott case, and replace it with a bust of former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Former Justice Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court justice.
