By 73 yeas to 24 nays, the Senate voted to override the President’s veto of S. 557, to restore the broad scope and coverage to the Education Amendments of 1972, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which were limited by a 1984 Supreme Court decision. The Senate continued consideration of S. 79, the High Risk Occupational Disease Notification and Prevention Act.
