Senate Passes Foreign Aid Package 79-18
Senate Session - September 24, 1997

The U.S. Senate met and continued debate on the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act. The bill titled S.830, sought to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and the Public Health Service Act to improve the regulation of food, drugs, devices, and biological products. The measure passed by a voted of 98 yeas to 2 nays. The Senate also debated S.1156 the District of Columbia Appropriations Act which provided funding for the District. Members voted on a number of amendments to the bill but did not pass the final legislation. Following the passage of a number of bills en bloc which included the certification of a number of nautical vessels among other items, the Senate adjourned until 12pm the next afternoon.
