Read Text of Government Funding Resolution
Senate Session - May 10, 2017

The Senate voted 49-51 against beginning debate on H.J. Res. 36, a disapproval resolution to repeal an Obama administration Bureau of Land Management rule requiring oil and gas producers to limit the amount of methane gas released on federal lands. Republican Senators Susan Collins (ME), Lindsey Graham (SC), and John McCain (AZ) voted no with all Democrats.

Many senators spoke about President Trump’s previous-day firing of FBI Director James Comey. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called for a special prosecutor to investigate ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. In protest of the firing, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) invoked the chamber’s “two-hour rule,” which limits committee hearings from lasting beyond the first two hours after the Senate gavels in.
