Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) delayed a vote on the two-year budget deal because of increasing budget caps and a raising of the national debt, arguing the government could be funded in another way and showed charts of federal programs he said were wasteful. Funding expired at midnight on February 8. The Senate later voted 71-28 to fund the government through March 23 and passed a two-year federal budget. The bill was then sent to the House for a vote.
