On day 24 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Senate Democrats for the third time, in an effort to force a vote on legislation to reopen the government, blocked a bill that would extend military assistance to Israel, put new sanctions on Syria, and urge state and local governments to oppose economic boycotts of Israel.
