Senate Passes $1.9 Trillion COVID-19 Relief Bill, 50-49
Senate Session - January 16, 2019

On day 26 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the Senate blocked a resolution lifting of sanctions on three Russian companies. The Treasury Department the previous month lifted those sanctions, and Senate Democrats wanted to reverse that decision and keep the sanctions in place. Sixty votes were needed to remove forward with the measure to maintain the sanctions. The final tally was 57-42.
