The Senate passed a Middle East security bill that includes new sanctions against Syria and U.S. military assistance for Israel. The measure includes an amendment expressing concern with the "precipitous" withdrawal of American troops from Syria and Afghanistan. The bill also clarifies that nothing in it constitutes an official authorization for the use of military force in the region. Members also advanced S.47, Natural Resources Management Act, by a vote of 99-1. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was the only senator voting against the motion.
