Senate Session - December 8, 2021

The Senate confirmed two nominations: Rachel Rollins for U.S. attorney in Massachusetts, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote on both her confirmation and the cloture vote; and Michael Smith to be CEO of AmeriCorps. Members also voted 52-48 to block President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for private employers. Democratic Senators Joe Manchin (WV) and Jon Tester (MT) voted with all 50 Republicans for the resolution, which would next go the House of Representatives for consideration.
