The Senate confirmed Dr. Atul Gawande’s nomination to be assistant administrator for Global Health at the U.S. Agency for International Aid annd Rahm Emanuel to be U.S. ambassador to Japan, and they confirmed by unanimous consent 40 other ambassadorial nominations. Members also confirmed several U.S. District Court nominations: Linda Lopez and Jinsook Ohta for Southern California; David Urias for New Mexico; Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong for Central California; Jane Beckering for Western Michigan; Shalina Kumar for Eastern Michigan; Jennifer Thurston for Eastern California; Katherine Menendez for Minnesota; Mary Katherine Dimke for Eastern Washington. Finally, members voted to advance two nominees to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals: Gabriel Sanchez and Holly Thomas.
