Committee members heard testimony from cable television executives regarding cable rates. Cable executives indicated that rate increases were being used to add services and rebuild systems. They also indicated that increases were traced to increased programming costs, especially sports programming services. The consumer representative disputed this position. Senate Majority Leader appeared at the meeting to indicate his concern about rising cable rates. close
