Members of the Senate Commerce committee held an hearing where witnesses testified about the controversy that was sparked by revelations that favors and improper gift-giving secured Salt Lake City’s bid for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The first panel testified about the measures taken to investigate the scandal and recommended that the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) undergo major structural change. They also talked about steps taken to reform the U.S. Olympic Committee. Witnesses then described the steps the organizers of the Salt Lake games had taken in light of the scandal.
