In his testimony before the Senate Select Ethics committee, Senator Riegle played down his ties to Charles Keating, head of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan. Although Mr. Riegle did not remember several key conversations with Mr. Keating, he did remember that he did not organize or attend a meeting between Edwin Gray, then head of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, and four senators to discuss Lincoln Savings and Loan. Mr. Riegle contradicted testimony given last month by James Grogan, who had been a lobbyist for Mr. Keating. Mr. Grogan had identified Mr. Riegle as having organized the meeting between Mr. Gray and the four senators. close
