Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Pete Williams briefed reporters on events in the Persian Gulf, including the huge and growing oil slick in the Persian Gulf being fed from tankers and pipelines from refineries in Kuwait.

Major General Martin Brandtner responded to Saddam Hussein’s charge that the U.S. military was targeting religious sites by saying the U.S. attack did not target any civilian targets, religious or otherwise. Neither Major General Brandtner nor Admiral McConnell would state what option the U.S. military was considering in response to the growing oil slick. close
