Mr. Williams spoke to reporters in the Pentagon on events concerning the Department of Defense, including the plight of Kurdish refugees in Iraq. He went over the impending announcement, to be made the following day, of U.S. military base closures being made as part of the U.S. military’s planned reduction of expenditures and personnel. Mr. Williams also discussed the return of U.S. military personnel from the Persian Gulf, and went on to discuss the situation in the Persian Gulf. Humanitarian air drops continued in northwest Iraq for the hundreds of thousands of mainly Kurdish refugees fleeing from the Iraqi government’s persecution. close
