Gerald Boyd spoke about his experiences in journalism and the scandal that ended his career at the New York Times. He resigned under pressure as managing editor of the paper resulting from revelations that New York Times reporter Jayson Blair was guilty of plagiarism and had invented elements in many of his news stories. Mr. Boyd discussed the lessons that could be learned from the scandal, including the need for increased communication and supervision. He accepted a share of the responsibility for the scandal but rejected accusations that Blair may have received special treatment as a result of his race. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Boyd responded to questions from the audience. close
