Undersecretary Bolton testified regarding U.S. policy toward Syria. Among the major concerns were Syria’s weapons of mass destruction programs and support of terrorist organizations. Also discussed were the extent to which foreign powers had provided funds, materials, and expertise to Syria, the Syrian government’s support for the Baathist regime in Iraq, and the extent of Syria’s cooperation in the U.S. war on terrorism. Following this open session, the committee held a closed hearing to discuss the issues in detail. close
