Mayors Purcell and Pate, co-chairs of the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Task Force on Hunger and Homelessness in the U.S., discussed the task force’s report, including the fact that it measures only requests for food and for shelter in one year. It does not count the total number of hungry or homeless persons. The purpose is to measure the demand placed on both community-based providers and government agencies in each reporting city. Percentages of increases in requests were reported, as well as percentages of unmet needs. After their presentations, the participants answered reporters' questions. close
