Officials talked with reporters about the findings of the 2005 Condition of Education Report by the Department of Education’s Education Statistics Services Institute. The report is congressionally-mandated and contains forty indicators on conditions and trends in elementary, secondary, post-secondary, and adult education. The commissioner said the report measures the performance of U.S. students on national and international assessments, student performance in low and high-poverty schools, the academic level of courses completed by high school graduates, the qualifications of teachers, and trends in school expenditures. They showed charts from the report and answered reporters' questions. close
