House Democratic Caucus members talked with reporters at the Rayburn Horseshoe while the partisan Select Committee on Hurricane Katrina was questioning former FEMA Administrator Michael Brown. They spoke about petitions of more than 400,000 Americans calling on Congress to create the independent commission.

They also announced the creation of a discharge petition to force debate and a floor vote on the formation of an independent, September 11-style commission to investigate the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. If successful, the discharge petition would force an up or down vote on H.R. 3764, legislation blocked by House Republicans. close
