The U.S. House Committee Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet held a hearing on “Public Safety Communications from 9/11 to Katrina: Critical Public Policy Lessons.” Witnesses testified on Hurricane Rita and Katrina’s effects on the region’s communications infrastructure. They discussed the destruction incurred as a result of the hurricanes and flooding as well as the relief efforts that have helped support restoration along the Gulf Coast. The witnesses also discussed what was learned and how they could react to future hurricanes. close
