The Joint Economic Committee held a hearing to understand the forces shaping current economic conditions as well as the economic outlook. Chairman Bernanke told the committee that recently enacted pro-growth economic policies, including tax cuts within the past 5 years, would help the nation withstand the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Following his testimony, a panel of experts testified about the outlook for the U.S. economy in the wake of the hurricanes.

Chairman Bernanke was nominated by President Bush to chair the Federal Reserve on October 24, 2005. close
