The Joint Economic Committee held a hearing to understand the forces shaping current economic conditions as well as the economic outlook. Chairman Bernanke told the committee that recently enacted pro-growth economic policies, including tax cuts within the past 5 years, would help the nation withstand the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Following his testimony, a panel of experts testified about the outlook for the U.S. economy in the wake of the hurricanes.
