He said that Americans should “not fear our economic future because we intend to shape our economic future.” President Bush outlined three key elements in the initiative which were to double the federal commitment to the most critical basic research programs in the physical sciences over the next decade, encourage bolder private sector investment in technology, and to make sure America’s children learn the skills they will need to keep America the world’s most innovative country.
