Witnesses testified about increased violence along the Mexican border and about a specific incursion on January 23, 2006. Administration officials said that the government of Mexico assured the U.S. that it was not responsible for incursions across the border. It was thought that drug smugglers may wear military-type uniforms and drive military vehicles in attempts to cross the border. Texas sheriffs and others testified about incursion incidents. Topics included review of coordination between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in deterring, responding and investigating these crimes.
