The House International Relations Committee held a hearing on United States policy toward Iran. Among the topics they addressed were Iranian nuclear programs and potential weapons development, possible Security Council sanctions on Iran, Russian and Chinese reluctance to take punitive measures against Iran, Iran’s connection to terrorist organizations, and recent statements by Iranian leaders.

At the beginning of the hearing the committee marked-up legislation on policy toward Sudan and the situation in Darfur that would impose sanctions against individuals responsible for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity and would support peace efforts in the Darfur region of Sudan. close
