Witnesses testified about a water crisis in Africa, international environmental policy, and efforts to provide relief. Among the issues they addressed were the lack of safe drinking water for over 2.6 billion living without sanitation facilities, public health problems caused by the crisis, and child deaths caused by preventable waterborne diseases.

Ms. Ugaz and Ms. Ali gave a briefing in a meeting of the committee before the hearing began. Representative Blumenauer was the first witness. close
