In an address to the nation President Bush supported the plans by his chief military commander General Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker. He said the provisional buildup of U.S. troops launched in January has improved security in Iraq, noting that sectarian violence is still too prevalent. He noted that the Iraqi government has not met all the benchmarks previously agreed to. Other topics included a free and safe Iraq, the pullout of some U.S. combat brigades by next July, and the violent death of tribal leader Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha. close
