The awards given were the W.M. Kiplinger Award for Distinguished Contributions to Journalism to Thomas L. Friedman; the Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism to Gordon Peterson; the Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award to Jeff Cohen; the National Press Foundation’s Chairman’s Citation Peter Prichard; the Everett McKinley Dirksen Awards for Distinguished Coverage of Congress to John R. Wilke for print journalism, to Drew Griffin for broadcast work, and a special mention to Bill Adair; the 40th annual Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Reporting to Dana Priest and Anne Hull; Berryman Cartoonist of the Year to Steve Breen; and the award for Excellence in Online Journalism to the Center for Public Integrity.

The 25th annual awards dinner was held in the International Ballroom of the Washington Hilton Hotel. The dinner was chaired by Gerald Seib and Gloria Dittus. close
