The pope met with 200 representatives of five major religions in the atrium of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington D.C. on the theme “Peace Our Hope.” After his remarks he was presented with symbols of peace by five young people representing the religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism and Judaism. The “Peace Prayer,” attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi, was sung by a schola cantorum. The farewell was delivered by Bishop Sklba and the Jewish guests moved to the Polish Heritage Room where the pope delivered Passover greetings.
