President Bush spoke at a convention of the Fraternal Order of Police in Pittsburgh, PA, to mark the beginning of former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh’s campaign for the U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania. The president spoke on crime in America, calling for stiffer penalties for drug dealers and the death penalty for criminals convicted of killing a police officer. The president also lauded Dick Thornburgh’s performance as attorney general, characterizing him as being a relentless prosecutor of criminals, and reaffirmed his confidence in the Supreme Court nomination of U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas. close
