Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) met with reporters to discuss nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union. He discussed the impact that the changes in the Soviet Union would have on their pledge to destroy nuclear weapons, and the future of nuclear weapons in the Ukraine and other former Soviet republics. He also responded to comments and questions from reporters on domestic issues. On September 27th, President Bush announced that the United States and NATO would proceed to destroy thousands of tactical nuclear weapons. Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev pledged that the Soviet Union would also reduce their nuclear arsenal. close
