The House Government Operations subcommittee heard testimony from health care providers and legislators on the government’s prevention efforts against the AIDS epidemic. More than 218,000 cases of AIDS have been reported in the U.S. to date, spreading most rapidly in the southern regions of the country. Issues raised in the hearing included the administration’s public awareness campaign against AIDS and the allocation of resources toward testing and outreach programs. Dr. Roper discussed the media campaign on AIDS put forward by the National Commission on AIDS. close
