The committee received the Mid-Session Budget Review of the Office of Management and Budget. The Office of Management and Budget is responsible for making yearly predictions on economic growth and various congressional calls on the office during the year to discuss economic performance and to revise, if necessary, earlier forecasts. Rep. Panetta, the committee chairman, pleaded for a focused non-partisan discussion of the country’s economic problems. Mr. Darman suggested that Congress was one of four major contributors to the nation’s economic decline. A highly partisan exchange proceeded between Mr. Panetta and Mr. Darman which included a debate of the president’s responsibility in the matter. close
