President Obama announced his nominee for the position of Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin, calling her “a relentless promoter” of programs to fight preventable illness. In her remarks she cited preventable illness such as diabetes as the reason her family was not with her at the announcement.

President Obama also talked about the pace of negotiations over health care reform legislation, urging lawmakers to pass a bill before the summer recess. close
