President Obama delivered remarks at a ceremony celebrating the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The previous year, President Bush signed into law a bill granting educational benefits to the members of the military who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. The Veterans Department began distributing tuition payments to schools participating in this program on August 1, 2009. Senator Jim Webb, who introduced the bill in Congress, former Senator John Warner, and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki also spoke at this event held in the Harris Theater at George Mason University.
