Fawn Johnson talked about the prospects for immigration reform in 2013, and she responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. Topics included existing immigration laws and policies, and how President Obama might handle immigration issues his second term. Telephone lines were open for comments on the question, “What changes, if any, would you like to see in immigration law?”

Brian Lawson spoke by phone about the Alabama immigration law, passed in 2011, which allows local and state police in Alabama to inquire into immigration status during traffic stops, and bans providing driver’s and business licenses to illegal immigrants.

Jude Joffe-Block talked about the latest news from the U.S.-Mexico border and how Arizona’s controversial immigration law was being affected by federal law. Arizona’s statute allows aw enforcement officers to check the immigration status of people they detain. close
