Historians, writers, and scholars commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The event took place at Gettysburg National Military Park and included guests such as Harold Holzer, Dolores Kearns Goodwin, and Allen Guelzo. Some guests were also interviewed live and responded to viewer telephone calls and electronic communications.

The Battle of Gettysburg took place July 1-3, 1863, in Pennsylvania, as Union forces turned back an invasion of the North by Confederate General Robert E. Lee, and is considered the bloodiest battle ever on U.S. soil. The Union victory inspired President Abraham Lincoln to call for “a new birth of freedom” in his address a few months later dedicating the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg. close
